Chicago 9/2-9/7

Hi! We are taking the train from St. Louis to Chicago the morning of 9/2. Staying @ Dewitt Place. We'd like to 'do' Chicago like a local. Not interested in High End Restaurants, but like good food. Would love some suggestions. We ant to see the sights....the Planetarium, the Aquarium, Navy Pier, Magnificent Mile.....we will not be available to sight see after about noon Friday and we leave Saturday. Any suggestions of what not to miss? And places to eat, good food and not spend a lot. We will not have a car, but we love to walk and I believe our hotel is located in an area that is conducive to walking. Thanks!!

Shedd needs to be hit first thing in the morning. Otherwise the lines can get insanely long.

Consider expanding your dining options out of the downtown touristy areas and into the neighborhoods where the locals tend to eat. Check the current dining information at www.chicagoreader.com and www.chicagomag.com - you can read restaurant reviews and search by area, cuisine, budget etc.

No need to limit yourself just to walking. It's quite a hike from your hotel down to the museum campus.

Public transit will get you anywhere you'll need to go to. http://www.transitchicago.com/ for public transit information. There's a trip planner tool on the homepage. Consider a CTA unlimited pass - transitchicago.com/travel_information/fares/…

Sounds like you have a lot planned already in only a day and half? Museums close pretty early and may have long lines.

When are you coming? You could cab to the museum campus to save time. It would be a pretty long walk.

Enjoy your trip!
