Cadallic Palace Theatre - dress circle seating

Looking at going to see The Young Frankenstein in the cadallic palace theatre in December. I am just wondering if I buy tickets in the dress circle seating area do I need to be dressed in a suit or will smart casual be ok?

You'll be fine. You'll see people who are dressed at both ends of the spectrum and just about everything in between.

Many things are not as formal as they used to be. One of them is attending the theatre.

However, even though what the previous poster states is usually correct, IMHO, when you go to the theatre

1) during the holiday season - which you are - (especially at weekend matinee performances) and

2) in the evening,

patrons are more likely to be in more dressy garb (not formal dress, though, unless for the opening night performances for a major theatrical event), rather than more dressed more casually.

Mid-week matinee performance are probably the least likely to be dressy.

What day and time of the week are you thinking about attending?

I am looking to go on the 6th December to the 6.30pm show. Can anyone reccommend a place to purchase tickets in the dress circle at a decent and realistic price.

Thanks for the replys so far..........

The only way to buy tickets for less $ than through Ticketmaster is directly from the box office at the theater. Since you are coming from Ireland and have one date and a specific seating area chosen you will not have this option. Since you are coming so far you should buy tickets now. Ticketmaster has a London office. Perhaps they have a outlet in Dublin too. In the Cadillac Palace the Dress Circle is under the balcony. The top 1/3 of the proscenium is cut off from your sightlines by the balcony overhang and sound is bad (all miked through speakers) Do NOT buy Dress Circle. The front of the balcony are the Loge seats. Those are what you want. The Orchestra seats are also good. I prefer the orchestra to look up at the stage but if you want to look at a downward angle the front of the balcony Loge seats are what you should buy. Comfortable casual is now acceptable in theatregoing. Remember to bring you Irish wool overcoat.

Re level of dress - we were in the front balcony at Jersey Boys last New Years' Eve, and people were dressed all the way from jeans to sparkly cocktail dresses, with a handful dressed to the nines.

A Sunday evening performance will probably be less dressy than a Saturday, so smart casual should be OK.

Just don't wear sneakers as some do.

Just food for thought: Although some people don't dress properly for the activities they are doing, it doesn't make it right. Going to the theatre during the holidays is still considered a special treat and *most* people understand that and dress accordingly.

Most people still go out to see and be seen. You just don't want to be seen for the wrong reasons.
