Train/Bus from Chicago O'Hare Airport to Marriott Mag. Mile

Was just wondering if there's any train or bus from the airport to Marriott on the Mag. Mile? How far is it? Is this recommended, or should we just take a taxi?

Thank you.

Follow the signs from the baggage level to that say CTA Trains to City. The trip on the Blue Line train will take about an hour and the fare is $2. If you'll be using public transit frequently while you're here, consider a visitor pass. It allows unlimited rides on all CTA buses and trains. A 1-day pass is $5 and a 2-day is $9.

At Jackson, transfer to the Red Line toward Howard and exit at Grand Avenue. The Marriott is about 3 blocks east. If you have lots of luggage or would have a problem with the stairs at Grand Avenue, exit at Clark/Lake and catch a cab for only a couple dollars. The Clark stop has elevators.

A cab from O'Hare would be around $35.

I would not take the subway into town from O'Hare again. Let me relate our story:

My four friends and I flew into O'Hare on a Saturday and decided to go 'native' and take the "El" into town. This was a mistake considering that the "El" typically gets maintenance servicing done on weekends and part of the blue line into town was closed for repair. We had to get off mid-way and walk down a huge flight of stairs (with our baggage) to hop on board a bus to the re-start El station which required another flight of stairs. They had the busses lined up to continue the 'blue-line' journey, but not enough. We had to wait 15 minutes for another bus. Tip: Be aggressive, or else you will loose your place in a bus line. To transfer to another line, we had to go down more stairs with our luggage.

Ultimately, we had to take two subways (with interrupted bus ride in the middle) to get within 1/2 mile of our hotel in the Mag Mile area. At our final subway destination, we had to lug our suitcases up two very big staircases. The whole trip into town took at least two hours and up or down at least six big flights of stairs. Finally, we had to walk our luggage for 1/2 mile to our hotel.

We took the taxi (private line, not city taxi) to the airport for the trip back home and it cost $55.00. Well worth it for us five to split the cost.

There are also shared shuttles you can book at the airport, but depending how many of you there are it may be more cost effective to take a taxi. The work on the Blue Line is only on weekends, so if you're coming during the week the train will run all the way downtown.

Yeah, i would check if there is work being done when you are coming. If there is, probably best to cab it. But it is very quick if it is running straight downtown.

To correct some erroneous information:

The one-day pass is $5.75. The two-day pass is no longer sold (discontinued at the beginning of the year). A three-day pass is $14.00. The one-day pass is not sold in the vending machine at the airport, so you would have to buy it in advance.

There is work on the Blue Line that occurs on the weekends that requires transferring to a bus to go around the construction. This is only on weekends and not every weekend. If there are major festivals or events downtown the construction work is usually suspended. Check www.transitchicago.com for more information.
