Hyde Park. Stony Island Ave.

Your only alternative is to go out of your way and take I-90 to I90/94 north to I-55 east to Lake Shore Drive/US 41 South. if you "were not too happy" with Stony Island Ave, you're going to be really unhappy with any other route other than the one I gave you.

As mentioned take 90/94 into the city to I55 North to Lake Shore Drive South. Much more scenic drive. You need to turn off Lake shore to the museum but there will be signs. It is not very far out of your way.

Are you coming into Chicago for only a day trip? Or are you staying in Chicago?

Depending on traffic, it’s probably an extra 20-30 minutes vs the way you drove there previously. Enjoy your visit.
