Short loop from Boise - does the direction make a difference

Hello!

I have a quick and probably very stupid question. Does it make a difference if you travel Boise-Stanley-Ketchum-Boise or Boise-Ketchum-Stanley-Boise?

We will be visiting in July and are having trouble with reservations. We are looking forward to seeing the fantastic scenery.

Thanks for your help

The short answer is no, but... so here is the long answer. :) The leg of the loop from Boise to Ketchum is fairly fast and easy, especially if you travel via I-80 and turn north at Twin Falls. You can also turn north at Mountain Home and take Highway 20 across Little Camas Prairie. The way from Ketchum to Stanley has some climbs and winding roads, but again not too bad. The road from Stanley to Boise, Highway 21, is the steepest and most winding. So it depends on your vehicle and your confidence in driving mountain roads, and whether you want to have steepest roads at the beginning or the end of your loop.

Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Have a great trip,

Pug

the drive from Boise to Stanley takes 2 1/2 hours to the Sun Valley area, then another hour to Stanley..driving in some of the most beautiful areas in the state..(sorry , D0bby!!) and another 3 hours back to Boise from Stanley...how much time do you have?? Planning on staying anywhere??

Thanks so much. We weren't thinking about the drive back to Boise. Excellent points.

We are currently booked into Valley Creek Lodge in Stanley and Silver Creek Hotel in Bellevue. We were unable to get a hotel in Sun Valley or Ketchum. It is very booked up during this time!

We have another question. Would we go through Banks on the drive to/from Stanley?

Thanks so much!

Okay, here are a few options.

We could spend the first night in Lohman and the second night in Ketchum. The third day, we would head for Boise for a flight home.

We could also spend two nights in Stanley. We could then drive through Sun Valley and Ketchum, spending some time before heading to Boise.

The last option is to spend the first night in Bellevue, the second night in Stanley and then head to Boise on the third day.

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much!

Yes, get on a waiting list for Ketchum. While Bellevue is only 15 miles away, you want Ketchum!! Call hotel Ketchum and tell them the DE from TA asked if you could be on a waiting list. Ketchum is totally cool and you can walk everywhere. Have you googled the area?

So one night in Ketchum and one night in Stanley. Once you get those reservations I can help with goid etc yes, you can drive thru Banks. If you are into hot springs, there is s great one in Loman

Okay, we are good! The Ketchum Hotel opened up so we have one night there and one night in Stanley! We also have the correct way on the loop - Boise to Stanley.

Thanks so much!

The route from Boise to Ketchum would be more freeway driving, less scenic and faster to get TO Ketchum. The route from Boise to Ketchum thru Stanley is not freeway, rather it is 2 lane, much of it along a river and very scenic. In July the Boise valley will likely be hot and weekends the highways going to the mountains very busy. It is a beautiful trip and merits stopping to enjoy the scenery and small towns. Hope this helps.

"fairly fast and easy, especially if you travel via I-80"

It's I-84 in fact, 80 is way south...
