Tybee Island Sightseeing + Beach In a Day

We were visiting Savannah for only 2 days, but wanted somehow to experience Tybee Island, as well.

Here's what we did in less than a day, leaving Savannah about 9:00 AM:

First, we went sightseeing at the Forts (Jackson, Pulaski, Lighthouse and Screvens -- a few hours). Directly behind Fort Screvens is a great little beach. When I say directly, I mean the distance in feet, rather than city blocks, the distance separated by a parking lot. How convenient! We spent a couple of hours on the beach without ever leaving the Fort area.

After the beach, we had lunch at a little restaurant (The North Beach?) right there in front of the beach, next to Ft. Screvens. Restaurant service, must admit though, was slow, even though not busy. Actually, there was only one other table occupied at the time we arrived, and it still took 45 minutes for my husband to receive his hot dog, and for me, my jerk salad. Food was pretty good, though.................. You could certainly eat elsewhere, if you would like.

We were back in Savannah by 4:00 PM.

Thanks for that. That north beach parking lot is under used so is a great spot if you want to avoid the crowds. North Beach Grill is the restaurant, I agree with your assessment, food is pretty good but a very "Tybee" pace.
