I hope everyone is ok there. We're coming in the 20th. How is the island holding up? I read water is a problem.
We have friends on SSI. A bad storm surge, lots of downed trees, causeway closed. No personal knowledge of Jekyll right now.
Curfew & Re-entry
It is not safe to be out and about on the Island right now, and curfew remains in effect from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
We are currently in Phase 1 of the Jekyll Island Re-entry Plan. Georgia State Patrol will not allow people onto Jekyll until roads are clear, water is safe, and emergency services are up and running. You can review the Jekyll Island Re-entry Plan on jekyllisland.com/irma.
GSP, DNR Law Enforcement, and Military Police teams remain in place, and will continue to have an increased presence on the island to ensure law and order until recovery is complete. The safety and security of the Island is our priority and looting will not be tolerated.
It appears that the island fared fairly well, but access is prohibited until power and services are restored -

The Jekyll Island Authority assessment team has made multiple trips through the island today and has already set many recovery efforts in motion. There were a significant number of trees and power lines down around the island. JIA crews along with DNR Chainsaw Strike Force and Georgia National Guard have been hard at work all day, and work will continue tomorrow.
The team saw minimal structural damage on the island, most homes are in good shape, but some have sustained damage. Every business on the island has been visited and all are in-tact with no flooding. Some shops sustained very minor, cosmetic damage.
It appears that we did experience a substantial amount of beach erosion, breeching some dune fields throughout the east side of the island. Many beach crossovers are gone, and many are damaged and will need to be assessed."
