We are a family of 4. we'ii be staying in the Vero Beach area for 12 days at the end of August till after Labor Day. I would appreciate good tips about local hotels and prefered areas to stay. daily hotel budget between 100$ to 130$. Thank you very much.

You might check to see if there are any vacation condo rentals available. For good hotels you will want to stay beachside. You may find rates that low at that time of year. I'm sure bluerusso will be along soon to give you some good suggestions. You might check out Disney's Vero Beach resort but I doubt it will be in your price range. It is about 10 min north of Vero Beach.

Condo rentals seem the best idea for a family. I don't know the market, but in general, there's nothing bad at the beach, as opposed to the mainland.

Much of the hotel market is high-priced (Disney, Vero Beach Hotel and Club, Disney). Costa d' Este seems to have deals as low as $120/night with their early bird (if you're attracted, think about calling); the Holiday Inn (ancient but seemingly well maintained) is probably just over $100.

The quirky Driftwood seems a little high:

South Beach Place has weekly rates. They are across the street from an oceanfront park in what is mostly a wealthy neighborhood with a couple of expensive restaurants and a pizza place. The beach is the one I use:

Aquarius is oceanfront nearby, sort of hiding in a row of low-rise condos. I've only driven by. Looks affordable

Sea Horse Beach Cottages is even more invisible, adjacent to a plush single-family residential community. You might call about rates.

Going back to the oceanside "downtown", Sea Turtle Inn is a block inland from the beach, but is attractively all-but-hidden and has a splendid reputation. I suspect (but only suspect) that if you stay there and want to sign up for beachside recreational activities at Costa d' Este, that can be done. I've met the guy who runs their Sharkbait Scuba Club--a genuinely likeable individual.

Farther north, the Surf Club is a fairly large older hotel. The current operators have made an effort to upgrade, and they're still in business (certainly hosting meetings of civic groups and such).

Essentially all of this is locatable via Google Maps. There's useful Street View imagery for South Beach. The Surf Club image seems like it might be several years old.

Drove by the Surf Club today. Definitely open. People were unloading for what looked like a beach vacation.
