Vero Beach-activities-sight seeing

My family is going to Vero Beach next week for spring break. We have three children ages 9,13 and 16. We will be staying at The Disney Resort.

Looking for activities/sight seeing in the area or areas near by. We are going to a spring training game one evening and will probably go to Universal for a day.

Would also like some feed back on The Disney Resort in Vero Beach.

Sebastian Inlet State parkhttp://www.floridastateparks.org/sebastianinlet/ It is about a 20 min drive north of the Disney resort. It's a nice place to take a picnic lunch and spend the day. There is beach access as well as a lagoon area to swim in. There are north and south accesses and you pay one price to be able to have access to both sides. It's a small entrance fee, so much per car. You can check with the resort, they should have info on kayak tours in the area. There is a dolphin watch cruise on a pontoon boat out of Captain Hirams in Sebastian.

I haven't stayed at the resort but have had lunch there a few times and it was very good. You are located right on the beach but are about 15 minutes north or Vero Beach. There is some shopping beachside and a mall with 12 plex movie theater close to I-95 in Vero. Check Riverside Park to see if anything is going on there. Sometimes there are art shows, etc. There is a theater and art museum located there.

Here are some things we've enjoyed doing with my son over the years. We had friends stay at Disney last year and they found the Conciere very helpful.

Air Boat Ride - This has to be one of the best things we've ever done. The owner is wonderful and the boat can be beat. Even hasindividual earphones so you can hear what's being said. Fun trip

River Cruise departing from Capt Hirams in Sebastian

Kennedy Space Center - Finally visited a couple of years ago. Don't know whay we waited so long - Had a great time

Palm Beach Zoo

Don't know much about Disney, but if you type in Disney at the top of the post opposit Vero Beach Forum, a whole buch of stuff comes up.

Enjoy your trip, We'll be done on 4/7.

I've stayed at this resort many times. As someone mentioned you're a bit north of Vero and actually closer to Sebastian (the boat excursions mentioned above are fun) The restaurants are good but pricy so we generally limit eating there. Our favorite is the Green Room overlooking the water. Capt. Hiram's in Sebastian is also a good choice for meals and we like Ocean Grill on the water in Vero Beach. I would also recommend visiting one of two grocery stores in Sebastian to stock up. I'm assuming you have at least a one bedroom unit which will have a full kitchen, and Disney has charcoal grills on the grounds.

The pool area is nice, water slide, miniature golf, game room etc. I think they offer tennis and basketball thru the tunnel on the other side of the road but I think I remember them selling off that property so that may not be there any more. They rent anything from jet skis to boogie boards at their beach house and I believe they charge for beach chairs/umbrellas on the beach. They have camp fires for the kids at night, and there is usually some kind of communal ball game going on the lawn of the main building in the evening. There used to be a nature preserve just across the first bridge on Orchid Island, and you may ask around for a spot to watch Manatees. We went looking several times but never had too much luck.
