Clearwater Beach or St. Pete Beach accommodations?

Hubby and I are flying into Tampa late next week for a quick 4 night getaway. Sounds like Clearwater Beach and St. Pete Beach are the way to go.

What places should I look at for reasonable, clean accommodations for two. We'd like a kitchenette or at least mini-fridge so we could have breakfast in. OR a place with decent breakfast included.

We'll bring wet suits for the ocean but want someplace with a heated pool too.

Which beach has more shells?

In St Pete Beach, take a look at Plaza Beach Resort. It is beachfront, with nice clean rooms with kitchenettes. No breakfast is included, but they do have a daily complimentary Happy Hour!

Neither SPB nor CB is known for its volume of shells. Not that you will never find any, but do keep your expectations in check. In SPB, take a walk (or drive) to the southernmost part of the beach for the greatest likelihood of a variety of shells.

Check out the Clearwater forum for lots of handy info.

The Hilton is right next to Pier 60, but is kinda up there $$. The Pier House 60 Hotel is brand new, moderately priced, and has mini fridges, and an at least edible bfast.

The Travelodge is older, but kept up nicely. Their rooms have a small stove, microwave, minifridge, and cups/plates/pots etc. All the rooms here have balconies. Some overlook the beach and gulf, and some the pool and parking. Good value in a great location.
