Beach hotel near Tampa, yet out of town

We are travelling to Florida in June for business, and once we escape Orlando we want a long weekend at the beach. Not a high rise with lots of hustle & bustle - what we're looking for is a beautiful quiet beach with lots of local flavor. And great seafood. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and inlcude your favorite restaurants.

I'd suggest the Pass-a-Grille are of southern St. Pete Beach. It's a small, quaint, old-Florida type area of small hotels/inns, shops, and restaurants. The beach is very nice. My favorite restaurants are Sea Critters and The Wharf.

Hi Love_Florida-

Is Pass-a-Grille an area in St. Pete's beach or is it a specific hotel/inn? Your description sounds exactly like what we are looking for!

It's an area of St. Pete Beach. You won't find a lot of info. on this area because it's so small. Go to www.tampabaybeaches.com and scroll down to Pass-a-Grille on the left for some info.

In second Pass-a-Grille, just south at the tip of st. pete beach. Ive stayed at "Inn on the Beach", and there are many walkable seafood restaurants(The Wharf, Sea Critters, Hurricane- for cocktails on the rooftop)

also check out www.floridasbeach.com, and look up pass-a-grille.

Relax!

Pass-a-Grille is wonderful..make sure you go to 8th Avenue there. It is the smallest "Main Street" in the US..there is an excellent Latin restaurant called Black Palm. Worth the $$

We were able to get reservations at Sabal Palms in Pass-a-Grille, and can hardly wait to get to a beach where the water is actually warm! (note: we're from Calif.) Thanks all and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Sand Key Beach...near Clearwater Beach...but laid back...

Also, check out Anna Maria Island and Sarasota is very expensive but very charming. St. Armand's circle and their downtown area are beautiful.
