Fourth of July

We will be visiting over the 4th...can anyone give me some pointers for the day? We will be traveling with a 2 year old and are wanting to spend the day on the beach, head back to the hotel in Sarasota for naps , then come back to Siesta Key for dinner, ice cream and fireworks...

Where are you staying in Sarasota? July 4th/fireworks are very popular and very crowded.

There are 2 places for fireworks in the area.

One is downtown Sarasota at Bayfront Park.

The other is Siesta Key Public Beach.

Selby Gardens has a viewing area you can pay for which might be an option for a 2 year old.

www.selby.org otherwise....

Parking is a huge issue for both events. You must get really early.

We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites off I75...when you say get there early...what time are you thinking? Thanks for the link to Selby...that looks like an option to show my husband, maybe easier with the little one too, although he has his heart set on fireworks on the beach just like we did 4 years ago in Siesta Key (prior to the little one)

There is V.I.P. seating at the Siesta key fireworks.

You might want to spend the money with the 2 yr. old.

How early to get there? Hard to say. You want to have dinner in the Village etc. the fireworks don't start until dusk.. I don't know how far you are willing to walk to the beach. There is an acess point by the Village at the corner of Beach Rd.. and Ocean Blvd.

There will also be lots of traffic leaving the Key after the fireworks.

Thank you for the tips. Are there any car services or cabs that service the area?

You could take a cab to the event but finding a cab in the crowds to take you back will be an issue.

There are many cab companies in town.

Diplomat Taxi comes to mind...you could contact them and see what they suggest.

You will be dealing with the Stickney Pt. Bridge too.
