Coming to Sarasota in June

Hi,

We are coming to Sarasota in late June with our kids (ages 7 and 4) and will be staying part-time at the Ritz Carlton (3 nights.) However, need something a little more reasonably priced to stay for the rest of our stay (an additonal 5 nights.) Would like something on the beach, around $150/night and under. Any suggestions? How is the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel?

Thanks in advance,

Suzanne

Also, it doesn't need to be in Sarasota, would consider the hotels on beaches in the surrounding area as well (we will have a rental car, so that is not a problem.)

Thanks!

Try the Hyatt next door and use AAA discount.I'm staying at the Sandcastle this Feb. because the Hyatt was booked up.Sandcastle is like a 50's motel but is on the beach which more than makes up for it.

We have stayed in Sarasota a few times - the Holiday Inn on Lido Beach is nice and an easy stroll to St Armand's Circle.

A gem, almost unknown, is Half moon beach club near the helmsley on lido key - prior to getting into the inn business, we stayed there a bunch with our kids - it is small, quiet and very family friendly. Your kids will probably meet "friends" almost immediately.

Late june is busy, be prepared. You may also want to check out Anna Maria Island for something different. Again, lots do to with young kids.

www.amichamber.org has a lot of details.

see you at the beach

try www.tropicalshores.com, it is on Sieta Key's Crescent Beach. You won't find a nicer beach. It's not gulf front, but it is gulf side - sits back about 1/2 block. Very family friendly.

Too many negative comments on the Sandcastle, so I'd nix that. Anna Maria is great...cute and quaint. On Lido, Coquina on the Beach Resort(www.coquinaonthebeach.com) is directly on the Gulf and even advertises free Disney movies! The rates fall in June, so you might find something there. Also you can check out the Radisson Lido Beach Resort which is on the Gulf too.

Hi

why not try Sunside Island Beach Club in a two bedded apartment.Excellent position right on the beach.Good pool and quiet at night.Gives much more room for four than a hotel room and at the same price. Ten minutes walk to St Armands Circle with great restaurants at all prices and lovely shops.Great ice cream and chocolate shops...guaranteed the kids will love it.The new Ritz carlton is fabulous but very formal and "well dressed!"You might appreciated somewhere more casual and low key to combine with the R.C.

Spent 5 nights in this hotel in April 2006, standard rooms were $180 a night for 4. Would strongly recommend upgrading. Standard rooms are old and have very bad damp problems from leaking air-con units.Very small bathrooms with rust and damp.

Lovely pool area. The staff were not pleasant, non communicative, would often just stand and stare at you with no dialogue when approaching to take orders, bar staff were the same.

Although the location and pool were great I would not return as the unfriendly staff and damp uncomfortable rooms did not make a relaxing break.

We travelled from the Uk and have been having holidays in the US for 13 years this was the only negative experience .
