Family fun in Sanibel?

We were thinking of going to the Sanibel area with our 2 kids for a 10 day vacation - our children are both under 2... is it a suitable place for kids - any recommendations of where to stay? We are looking for nice ammenities, cribs for kids, kid-friendly pool and proximity to some things to do - walking, cycling, things to see, shopping, etc - any help would be greatly appreciated!

Even though family members own several lovely condos on Sanibel, we rent units at Pointe Santo when the "whole gang" come down at the same time. The mysanibelcondo.com option (mentioned by the owner in an earlier post) may be just the right place for you. If not available when you need it though...here are a couple of other possibilities...units we have rented.

The unit is on the second floor, but beautifully decorated and not far back from the beach / pool

We have rented this unit several times for the first floor convenience. Depending on the time of your visit, this owner may be flexible about renting to you for the full 10 days. She once did that for me.

Lucky you...ten days on Sanibel Island. Have fun with the planning!

Thank you Tourmaline - you've been a wonderful help! I am really excited about the prospect of coming to Sanibel - my Mom is also coming over to join us from the UK so it'll be a fun time.

Thanks again,

OLM:

You and your family will love Sanibel. I can't think of better place for a family to relax and get to know each other.

A couple of things worth remembering.

The Sanibel sun, which attracts so many people, can be brutal, especially on kids under 3 years old. Be very cautious about how much time you let them spend on the beach, at the pool etc. My two fair-skinned boys burned to a blister, even with t-shirts on, when were naive about exposure to the sun.

If you are looking for a place to eat with young'uns of that age, Hungry Cow may be just what you need. We took our grandkids there as babes and they let them slobber all over the place. No complaints and no troubled adults wishing the kids weren't there. Good food and good fun too.

Some condos with pools have life guards. Others don't. You might want to check that out with kids of the age of yours.

Finally, some owners and rental firms have extensive web sites with multiple pictures of the units available. Take a look at those sites and you will know as much as pictures can tell you about what you are reserving.

Still, Sanibel is one of the places in the world where you can end up in a second-rate condominium and still have a great time. Enjoy.
