house for rent? Easter 2007

Would like a house to rent for approx 17days over this period, ideally with small pool and big enough house for two adults. I appreciate many do not consider letting a house for less than a month. Any ideas.

The City of Sanibel has a zoning ordinence that stops less than 28 day rentals. [One or 2 houses have nightly options as they were grandfathered in when the restriction was passed.] In short, the owners must leave the house empty if not occupied for the full period. As you're looking for a prime week, it is unlikely you'll find anything, BUT you may if you're willing to pay so the owner doesn't take a loss. Captiva does allow weekly rentals of houses and Leaping Lizard may suit, but it is VERY pricey. See www.captiva-island.com and click on Map at the bottom of the page and you see an interactive map with houses. It's located in the tiny village area and walking distance to restaurants and a few shops.

Another option, though not as private as a house, is a beach cottage. The cottage colonies are small and some are adult only. You may find it it more in economical as well. Check out Island Inn, Mitchell's, Tropical Winds, Castaways, and the places in Olde Town Sanibel, like Buttonwood and Seahorse that are in walking distance of both ba and beach.

Condos are plentiful and most are Gulfside or near Gulf. You can start with www.sanibel-captiva.org and then try www.VRBO.com for direct from woner rentals. A few home owners may bend the rules a bit, but since Easter is popular, don't count on it. The agencies usually won't even consider it in-season.

Another website for direct from owner rentals on Sanibel is:

Easter is a Prime week and carries a surcharge many places. It is also booking out already, so don't wait too long. Good luck!
