Looking for a resort or condo for a honeymoon in April 2007. Quiet, close to restaurants, very few children. Have never been to this area of Florida.. Any suggestions?

Sanibel is very much a family place and children are a big part of it. There are a few cottage colonies that are adults only. See www.sanibel-captiva.org and click on where to stay then cottages.

Sanibel does not play host to your typical resorts that you'll find on most barrier islands. Longboat Key has some very nice full service resorts. If you're looking for some peace and quiet, check out some of the small condo complexes. GrandmaMac favors Sayana, a very small complex with a good location. She'll be able to give you good info on that. Seagrape is another very small complex that might be a choice. It's on the East End, the more 'townish' part of Sanibel.

Avoid Sundial, Pointe Santo, Loggerhead Cay, all of the HGV properties, South Seas Resort and Casa Ybel. All are fairly large properties and have many families. Depending on the owner and the agency, you might catch a break on rates later in April if the dates are at all flexible. If you're willing to be off beach - just across the street - look at Seashells of Sanibel on West Gulf and Spanish Cay, across the street from the Sundial facing the Beachview golf course, but I think it may have a 2 week min.

If not having a pool is OK - see www.vrbo.com/23973 a great little cottage at White Caps.

This is a pretty good map of condo complex locations

The majority of restaurants are along the center of Sanibel on Periwinkle Drive.

With the exception of Blind Pass, all aren't far from dining and shops. Sanibel is pretty small.

You might want to look at some small private homes on Captiva as well. Most have private pools, but some don't. The village area has 2 quiet private lanes. Laika and Wightman, that go down to the beach and the homes there are pretty decent buys vs. Sanibel condos prices. Stafford sits beachfront and has a large hot tub but no pool. see www.captiva-island.com And be sure to check other rental agencies listed on the CofC website above for plenty of choices. Also www.VRBO.com for Captiva homes. [Sanibel homes rent a minimum of 28 days]
