Best place for supplies between RSW & Sanibel?

My husband and I are flying into RSW around 6:00 on Friday, 9/7 and would like to pick up groceries, pool floaties, sunscreen, etc before heading to our hotel (Casa Ybel). We're from the Pacific NW and all summer stuff is long gone from stores, will we even be able to get inflatable pool loungers? What all do you recommend we get?

We're planning on eating breakfast, and some lunches and dinners in our condo so if we need to go to a regular grocery store, and then someplace else for the pool stuff and sunscreen that would be ok. Is there somewhere convenient to the airport/drive to Sanibel we can stop at?

Yes. There will be both a Walmart and a Target convenient to your route. I have found that Walmart usually has a better selection than Target. Both Target and Walmart are superstores where you can also get groceries, etc. There are also stores on Sanibel where you will be able to get floats (try Jerry's plaza).

Leaving the airport go right on Treeline, left on Daniels. There is a Target on the corner of Daniels and US41 ( on your left before 41). To get to Sanibel from there just continue down Daniels (called Cypress Lake Dr after crossing 41) and take a left on Summerlin which will take you to the causeway. (There is also another Target closer to the beaches. To get there you would continue to the beach on Summerlin and take a right on San Carlos which is by another flyover. The Target will be up a bit on your left.)

To get to Walmart, go right on Treeline, left on Daniels, left on US41 to the corner of 41 and Six Mile Cypress/Gladiolus. You will see the Walmart on the SE corner. To get to Sanibel from Walmart go down Gladiolus and over the flyover onto Summerlin.

There are grocery stores on Sanibel (Baileys, Jerrys). You will also pass several Publix grocery stores on your route to Sanibel. Have fun!

Just be aware at that hour, almost everything on Sanibel will be closed. Consider having Bailey's or Jerry's stock your condo/cottage for you for a small fee and pick up the pool toys in the morning at Jerry;'s (several stores), Ace Hardware in Evergreen, or Bailey's. Even the drug store (CVS?) on Palm Ridge often has them. Many condos supply some toys/floats.

I think Jerry's Foods is open until 10 and Bailey's closes at 9. These are both on Sanibel; Jerry's is right on Periwinkle at Casa Ybel so would be very convenient to hit on your way to the resort. Jerry's carries everything you described. There is also a CVS on the island that carries an extensive array of beach equipment. Enjoy Sanibel!

We actually replenish our stock of beach gear (towels, chairs, umbrellas, inflatables) from CVS on the island. Their prices are not significantly different than target or walmart, and the location is convenient. I would wait to see what is at the condo before purchasing any beach equipment. Many owners provide these items (although the rental agents might not be able to confirm this)
