Gator Report - Sanibel and Lee County

OK. All joking aside, there's information on gator issues. If for some reason you can't get to the News Press article

The most pertinent quote is, "Since the change on Sanibel, more than 100 [gators] have been harvested there. Judie Zimomra, Sanibel city manager, said the policy is working well for Sanibel.

“Since we instituted it there have been no fatalities since, and no subsequent reports of pets or human attacks,” Zimomra said."

This will, hopefully, put gator/lizard concerns to rest.

Well I hope so. But how could they confirm that it is the actual policy that has helped ensure that this would not happen. Most gator attacks occur because of poor decisions by humans..ie..Swim in retention ponds, not putting a dog on a leash, feeding alligators etc. Maybe peopel are starting to wake up and releaze that these are not pets and they are just not being as stupid.
