When does the water get warm?

Quick question - when does the water typically get warm enough to swim? We were there a couple weekends ago and really loved the St. Pete Beach area, but even being from MN we couldn't swim in that water - too cold!

Tough question. For a native like myself, not until June or July. But by August, it's like bath water. We have friends from Michigan who come down every April, and they think the water is great. I thin December/January is chilly no matter where you're from (except the Antartic!!)
