Thank you St. Augustine for a great weekend

Thank you to all of you who posted your recommendations on Trip Advisor. After doing enough research to spend a week or two in St. Augustine, we were able to narrow down the top tourist spots (in our opinion) for our weekend.

We stayed at the Hilton Bayfront, which is perfectly located to allow you to walk to the majority of destinations (the only exceptions were the lighthouse and Purple Olive). For those of you going, one of the first things you'll notice is that everyone is so NICE. Everyone wants to make sure that you have the best experience while staying in their city, from the energetic (if not overly caffeinated) team at Kookaburra Cafe to the volunteers at the Castillo de San Marcos.

For those of you only going for a short stay, here are my recommendations:

* Stay where you can walk to the destinations, it's much faster to walk then to get in your car and try to find parking. All of the attractions we were planning on seeing were in walking distance (except again for the lighthouse and Purple Olive).

* The Crucial Cafe and the Kookaburra are absolutely a MUST for those of you who love coffee.

* The Castillo de San Marcos and the Pirate and Treasure Museum are right next to each other (and close to the Crucial Cafe). The reenactment of a cannon firing at the Casillo, the views, the various rooms with artifacts makes this historical landmark my number one recommendation. The Pirate and Treasure Museum was a lot of fun - even though we didn't bring the kids with us.

* The Yard Bird has FANTASTIC breakfasts and they are close to Flagler College (10am tour).

* We didn't get to Ximenez-Fatio, but they open at 11:00 and are close to Flagler

* The Floridian has wonderful lunches and they have several gluten-free options. Their coconut ginger carrot soup made me want to return for dinner.

* The top of the Lighthouse view is breathtaking. Allow time also to visit the museum.

* The Tini Martini had an impressive list of martinis. The martinis are not tiny. In fact, they give you a martini and then the shaker they made the martini in so that you can have a second one to either share or enjoy. We were fans of the Rockin' Tini and the Dark Chocolate Tini.

* We did go on a night tour, however it wasn't very good.

* We also went to San Sebastian for a tour, however we were disappointed to find out that the "tours" were self-guided with a very short pour at four or five stations.

There was so much more that we wanted to do, however time (and rain) prevented us from seeing all of the sights. Thank you again to everyone for your valuable input and to the wonderful people of St. Augustine.

So glad you had a good time in our fair city! If you haven't already, please make sure you post reviews on the restaurants and attractions you toured - especially the restaurants. TA reviews are so important to them! And thanks for the great write-up! Come back soon!

Thank you for the great trip report! Glad you liked the Purple Olive, seems like they've changed their menu again (as they often do) so we'll have to go again!
