October visit

My husband and I are planning to visit ponte vedra beach in mid October. We have rented an wonderful house, so close to the water! We want to take a few day trips to St. Augustine and maybe even Amelia Island. Any suggestions on places we shouldnt miss or places that we should avoid? Also, how are the mosquitos and other biting insects? Hows the shelling?

Hello! You shouldn't have a problem with biting insects in October, but if you are in a heavily shaded area you might have some nippers, nothing too unpleasant. The shelling is not very spectacular unless there has been a storm, but you will find plentiful shark's teeth.

Don't miss- St. Augustine: Lunch at Cortesse's Bistro - Artichoke soup, fabulous, and an outdoor patio perfect for October.

Cocktails and sunset at The Conch House - waterfront restaurant, an institution - the food is hit and miss, but the view is not to be missed.

A carriage ride - yes, it's touristy, but I have always taken out-of-towners and never regretted it, was born and raised here. It's fun if you like kitchy things. Some of the operators are better performers than others.

Ponte Vedra and surrounding beaches: Dinner at Barbara Jean's - get there early if it's the weekend, no later than 5:30 or you will be waiting an hour. Weekdays it's not as bad. Intracoastal front, southern cooking, awesome chicken fried steak.

Sunset and cocktails at Casa Marina, Jax Beach: Spectacular view up and down the coast, have a drink there...

Then go to 11 South http://www.elevensouth.com/ for dinner.

Sorry this is getting rambling...hope it helps and happy to suggest more...cheers!

it looks like your post got lost in the PVB forum, not too much activity there, try posting on the St Aug site,U will get a lot more info...

good info from Canflgirl & U should have nice weather, still swimable but look out for fall cold snaps, the first nor'easter's will hit then...

U going to go to St Aug so check out all the usual places, the Fort, the Cathderal,St George St,

something different might be renting scooters to zip around in or maybe a boat rental or a fishing/shelling charter...

cheers,.beachboy
