Beach Recommendations

Hello fellow beachgoers! We will be staying in Gulf Shores the second week of August and will be making a day trip to Pensacola to see the Blue Angels the morning of the 13th and tour the Naval museum afterward. We plan on spending the rest of our day at the beach in Pensacola and I would like recommendations on which beach to visit. The kids like some wave action for boogie boarding/skim boarding and the guys like to fish. There are 13 people in our group so we would like to stay in one location. Would the pier area be best or is it incredibly crowded? Also, do any of the restaruants take reservations? We will bring a picnic lunch but would like to eat out at a casual place with great food, preferably with a water view. We have never been to Pensacola before and would appreciate any ideas. Thanks so much!

I would just head to the main beach area by the fishing pier (it's called Casino Beach). Can't guarantee wave action without knowing what the weather will be on that day. I wouldn't worry about crowds since you're going mid week. For restaurants I would recommend Flounder's with that size group. It's on the Sound side of the island at the Boardwalk. You can easily walk there from Casino Beach. There is an outdoor playground for the kids. For your size crowd, I really think that would be your best bet. Just call them ahead of time and tell them about your large party.

Honestly, going to the Blues practice, then seeing the museum, then driving out to P. Beach, playing on the beach and fishing, having a picnic lunch, eating dinner at a restaurant, and then driving back to Gulf Shores (well over an hour's drive) seems like one ambitious day. Have you taken driving distances into account and how people are going to feel at the end of that long, hot day??

Not trying to discourage you from visiting Pensacola Beach...just hoping you're not expecting something radically different from Gulf Shores.

Thanks for the information on Casino Beach and Flounders. I know it does sound quite ambitious of us to spend an entire day that way! My parents are travelling with us on this trip and have never spent time on a "Florida Beach" and that's why we are plannig to spend the day at Pensacola Beach. If everyone tires out and is ready to head in for the day before dinnertime, we will just head back to Gulf Shores. This will be our one BIG outing for the week, so hopefully everyone will make it through to the end of the hot, busy day and we can all enjoy ourselves. Thanks again for the information.

I'm sure you'll all have a great time! I said in my post that Flounder's is at the Boardwalk but it's actually next to the Boardwalk. Just look for the big shrimp boat outside!
