family vacation

my wife and i have 3 children 8, 5, &3years old.we are looking for any info on pcb. attractions, lodging,we have a rental house on the beach in pcb but after further consideration, we are looking for something cheaper. ideally we are looking for something on the gulf , preferrably 2 brs or more with a full kitchen. the info i have seen so far has been helpful. is it true the beaches in pcb have slime in june? we are planning our vacation in the middle of june. by looking at the brochures i get an idea that the waters are blue and the sand is whitehow much is true and how much is advertising? we have been to myrtle sc how much are the attractions the same?

Much/most of PCB is old & run down. PCB is very popular with the 'teens for drinking/party etc. It is NOT a very good place for people with kids. Yes, the water & sand IS beautiful in that area of Fl. However, I would STRONGLY 'suggest' u go to DESTIN, Fl which is approx 80/90 miles EAST of PC... It is NEWER & MUCH MORE family friendly. You would have to go all the way to Key West to find water/beach as pretty as it is in Destin... U did not say if u were driving r flying?? If u r flying, u would have to fly into Ft. Walton Beach which is only about 20 minute drive East of Destin. Destin also offers probably the BEST in salt water fishing in 80% of Fl... DESTIN gets my vote over PC ANY DAY!! Have a great vacation......

Part TWO, SORRY!!! I almost forgot about u question reference Myrtle Beach.. Once u have been to Destin r most ANY beach in Fl, u will probably NEVER go back to M.B. I have been to Myrtle B. several times & never understood what so many seem to see in Myrtle. I guess they just have never been to Fl. beaches.... I live in TAMPA area & can tell u that that DESTIN & anywhere in the KEYS r impossible to beat in the entire U.S.

I am sorry again!! Getting my directions mixed up.. Ft. Walton is 20 minutes WEST of Destin, NOT east.... There is enough for the kids to do in Destin. The beach in Destin do not have as many peolple, which makes it very nice & mostly family go there, not bunch's of wild teens.........

We have a 6 and an 8 year old and we got tired of the crowds and the commercialism and the waterparks between Destin and Panama City, so we continued E and found Cape San Blas, FL! It's only 50 miles from Panama City, but VERY different.

It's 20 miles long with the Bay on one side, the Gulf on the other and 10 miles is State Park. There are no highrise condos and the sand is white and soft and the water clear and beautiful!

There aren't any waterparks and it's extremely family friendly and the beach is pet friendly (allows dogs 24/7).

I don't have to worry about my kids walking down the beach...I can even see them since there isn't a crowd!

Worth checking out if you are looking for a new vacation destination!

Went with family last year, and during spring break time so you can imagine the crowd. we stayed at the sterling beach resort which was away from the loudness but close enough to the restaurants and local attractions. it was a very nice quiet accomodation. it was equipped with a full kitchen , laundry room, everything you could think of. my family was very pleased with it.

Look at South Walton Beaches also, about 10 miles west of PCB, next to Seaside. I have been going to the area for 40 years for every spring break, ten years ago PCB became just to much to handle even for this professional beer drinker. We went to St George Island (eastside) for three years, which has very little to do but worked great until we had our own kids. Now we go to Seagrove, Deston is just to crowded to many tall condo's.

The beach is so much prettier than Myrtle Beach--the prettiest I've seen. The sand is truly white and the water blue. I have rarely seen slime at any time. Try the Moondrifter for a larger 2 bedroom condo. LaVela will be closed this year and you will like the smaller, quieter condo with complete kitchen.

For the younger set PCB has such places as Gulf World (similar to Sea World) and Zoo World (monkeys & lions and such). Also nice minature golf everywhere.

We visited our son near by PCB and took our grandsons (ages 5 & 9) to Gulf World. Had a wonderful time! However EVERYTHING in Florida is pricey!!!

I would recommend buying souveniers at the dollar stores or wally-world if you know what I mean. They had local-type stuff really cheap!
