Accommodation and transfers

Hi, we are a group of 10 (4 adults and 6 children) travelling to Walt Disney World May 2014. We are in the process of planning accommodation. We require 2 separate rooms (1 per family)… each family has 2 adults and 3 children. We want to stay somewhere not to far from Walt Disney World as this will be our main focus whilst on holidays. Free transfers to the parks is essential as we do not want to hire a car. I have found that some hotels only offer transfers at set times of the day and not very regularly. We would ideally like to stay somewhere that offers regular transfers (say every 30 mins or hourly) throughout the day. Our budget for accommodation is upto $200 per night. I know Disney resort accommodation would be ideal but not in our budget (Port Orleans is okay but rooms are too small for 5 people).

Also if you could please recommend the best way to transfer from airport to accommodation. As we are travelling from Australia and also visiting other parts of USA we will have a large suitcase each so not sure if taxi would be suitable??

Welcoming all your suggestions please.

Thanks

Well, if you're flying into Orlando International, staying at a Disney resort would solve your transportation issues by use of Magical Express busses; it's very accomodating and free of charge for Disney resort guests.

Have you checked to see if the Hilton Downtown Disney location is affordable for you? They have shuttles to the Disney parks every 30 minutes or so and they are the only "off site" hotel that participates in Extra Magic Hours for the Disney parks. However, you cannot use Magical Express with them.

If a taxi or multiple taxies won't work for your group, you might want to check with Mears on a shuttle van transport. They can hold more people and luggage than a taxi can.

How old are the children ? We have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside many, many times and find the room size just fine for 5. Last visit the children were 6, 14 & 15 and we all managed, it is a wonderful Resort

There should be nice room discounts for May, if you book now, direct with Disney or an Official Disney Travel Agent, you can Modify later to take advantage of the Spring Discounts, just a thought. Transport concerns would be wiped out if you stayed at a Disney Resort

You might also look into renting Points from a DVC ( Disney Vacation Club ) owner, that can make getting a larger Villa very affordable

More info if interested

Thank you all for your great feed back. I have just found out that the "Downtown Disney Hotels" all have free shuttles to WDW every 30 mins. There are 7 hotels in this group that offer this service. Might consider staying at one of these properties.
