Extra magic hours - how do they work

Was just wondering how these work in an evening when every other guest is still in the park? We go in September and plan to make use of the extra magic hours in the hope that it will be very quiet.

Thanks

Hi there, as soon as EMH start you have to show your key to the world(Disney room key...soon to be wrist band) to staff before getting on any if the rides.

Any non Disney guests in the park when EMH start cant get on any of the rides/attractions.

You show your room key to the Disney employees manning the rides and if you are not at a hotel with EMH,you can't ride anything. Its not just Disney hotels,;also Hilton DTD and Swan and dolphin have the EMH

It is Never "quiet" but...

You can get a lot done in that first hour in the morning. Everyone "thinks" they will get up early and be there for rope drop but in reality, very few actually accomplish, so if you are truly Morning people, go for it

We like a more relaxed morning so we take advantage of the Evening Extra Magic Hours. It is still quite Hot in September ( we have been many times in September ) so it is lovely to be in the Parks later at night when it is cooler and it is more Magical. In our experience, the Parks are quite easy to manage during the extra magic hours

In my opinion, extra magic hours in the morning are worth it. Especially if you have a hopper pass and can jump to a less crowded park around lunch. Most people won't bother to get up that early and non resort guests aren't allowed in.

In the evening, however, I've always found the lines to be horrible and the parks very crowded becuase non park guests don't always leave and many people go to the park just for the hours. Lots of people spend there day at a non-hour park, take a break, and then return to the extra-hour park at night. Extra magic at night just seems to attract large crowds to me. I've had luck hitting the singles lines at night, but otherwise not so much.

Even though early morning hours are shorter, I've always been able to ride more in that time, than in the evening.

Also, keep in mind that only some of the rides are open and those may not even interest you. For instance, I originally scheduled us hitting AK for early morning hours. Then after I checked which rides were open, I realized that the only ride my kids want to do that is open in the morning is the Safari, so it wasn't really going to be worth it to go just for that one ride.

My kids like going to the parks, which offer them in the evening. The kids like the fun of being out late (past curfew) riding rides. So do I.

Early morning magic hours are the way to go or the tail end of a late magic hour. Ex. if magic kingdom is open from 10pm-1pm the last hour and half is the best time to go. Years ago, (before kids) I remember riding splash mountain like 5 times in a row during the last hour of magic hours.

Rumor has it that the best time to do the safari @ AK is first thing in the morning because it's not as hot and the animals are more liking to be out in the open. I would look for the morning magic hour @ AK.

Also, when I was at Disney World a couple weeks ago Hollywood Studios was letting people in a half hour early at 8:30 for non magic hour days. This is real important is you want to get a couple toy story mania rides in before the fast pass times gets out of control. :)
