a fair assumption since x-mas > new years is the most crowded time of the year and a time which is best avoided

If you are talking about flights then they are only released 11 months in avdance and yes it is expensive the closer you fly to the 25th Dec.

We have just returned, this morning, from almost 3 weeks in Orlando, spending Xmas & NY there! It was our first trip to Florida (not the last!) so we have nothing to compare it against cost or crowd wise. What I can say is that it was the most amazing Christmas & NY ever, I have never done so many 'Christmassy' things! We visited all the parks, and did not spend hours queuing or standing shoulder to shoulder with crowds as some would have you believe! We booked flight & hotel through BA direct and was cheaper to stay 19 nights than 14!

Disney and the other theme parks add meal supplements during the holidays so there is an upcharge then;same thing for their hotels. Airfare usually goes up quite a bit;if you fly on Christmas itself, its cheaper...you have to look around,we have 3 airports to choose from in NYC and more within a decent distance (like Philadelphia) so we usually can get a decent price. Hotels outside the parks usually have no holiday supplements butof course, the more booked up they get,the more the room rates go up. It is very crowded at the theme parks but if you are prepared for that, the parks are beautifully decorated-we go at Thanksgiving every year just for the Osborne Lights and it is our most expensive trip of the several we take yearly

The Disney hotel prices go through the roof at Christmas and New Year.

I stayed at the Grand Floridian last year for 3 weeks and the room only cost over christmas and new year was eye wateringly expensive.
