Orlando alone?

HI everyone

Currently debating a trip to orlando OR to vegas on my own. Would spend 5 nites in the first in april 2014, 3-4 nites in the latter in sept/oct 2013. Just love the US (fell in love with US after my first trip for a very long time to NYC in May!)

Main wants from this holiday are: plenty of stimulation/lots to see and do, relatively walkability/easy to get around without a car, a bit of luxury (and some sun), some buzz/atmosphere and ideally some shopping (preferably bargains:)!

Main concerns are safety (i'm very slight framed and being a single girl on my own i dont want to be too unsafe but not naive either/lived in a big city before), and being lonely / not enough to see and do and inability to get from A to B with ease.

Any advice or reccomendations welcomed!:)

I always say that one city you can be alone in and not feel any pressure is Vegas

No one takes any notice of single travellers people are often by themselves for whatever reasons restaurants are full of people eating on their own, the shopping in Vegas is great but not cheap in hotels but there are outlet malls too

Plenty of shows to see and of course every hotel is like a mini country so plenty to do and see if gambling isn't your thing

Also there's the Grand Canyon and Hoover dam for excursions

Orlando on the other hand is family and group orientated not somewhere I would visit by myself but that's just me

Hiya Heachy~~~~~~~~I don't do Vegas, but can advise you on Orlando. I often go there as a solo traveler. I will tell you that I'm lots older than you,and a Disney fanatic. (I'm 62)..I do stay at the Disney resorts, and you can't feel any safer than that. All your transport would be included, and you would only need public transport,or cab, when leaving property, for shopping or visitng other parks.

(There are group shuttles like Mears Transporation. Very reliable and inexpensive).

Many peeps do Disney by themselves. There are always folks that are doing conventions there, and they tend to drift off alone. It's a wonderful place to travel solo.

For one thing, you don't have to discuss where to do,and when..just do as you please. There are "single rider" lines at some of the attractions.

If you're not comfy dining alone, you can always do counter service. There are lots of good options.(You don't have to stick to burgers..you really dont).

There's Downtown Disney for "nightlife lite"..if you know what I mean. Nice clubs and pubs, but still within the Disney property,so altho it's great fun,it's a much safer feeling.

Solo travel is da bomb!!

Oh,forgot to add. Never ever feel out of place, when you travel solo. (Not that you said you did). Nobody is watching you. Everyone in this world is wrapped up in themselves..they really are!

Cheers. ;+))

Moose I agree if the parks are your main intention than by all means choose Orlando

But other then Disney or the parks what else would you recommend for a single tourist in Orlando?

Heachy - Vegas is very safe have never felt intimidated there just the sheer volume of people makes you safe and invisible

I love Vegas it's an adult playground

Susie..I don't have much in the way of other Orlando info. Just wanted to give the OP my solo tips,in case she may want to visit Disney. I don't try to persuade people to do what I do. Just like to share my thoughts and experience,as a solo female.

Definitely Vegas if alone. Easy to get around either on foot or bus, no need for car. Luxurious hotels for low price. Would recommend the Encore. Stayed there the last 3 times I visited. Great shopping at Outlets and Malls. Great restaurants and not just chain restaurants, which is primarily what is on offer in Orlando. Lots to do at night unlike Orlando. Free alcohol if you gamble!! I have been to both locations and feel Orlando is not for you if you are on your own.

If I was travelling alone I would prefer Orlando to Vegas. I loved Vegas but don't gamble so we wandered round all the hotels and I think I would be bored alone there.

In Orlando a lot of the rides are fun alone, even if you're sat with family you don't chat as you do rock n rollercoaster. There are also a lot of shows which aren't too long.

I noticed staying at beach club a lot of single people as there was a massive conference on at yacht club.

I also felt very safe at night even when I went out by myself and not sure I would at Vegas.

Vegas is the number 1 city for conventions in the US therefore you will find loads of singletons there and will not feel out of place. Due to the security in the casinos (hotels) both on the floor and in the sky ( hidden cameras) I would say you will be as safe as houses. I personally would never go to Orlando on my own. Would feel conspicuous as mostly couples and families. I would consider Vegas however.
