New Hotels / Resorts Opening in Orlando?

Hello all.

Quick question:

Does anyone know whether any hotels have opened in the past few months in the Orlando / Kissimmee / Daytona Beach area or are opening in the coming month?

Also, how bad are the lines for Disney and Universal for the first couple of months in May?

Thanks again for all your help in advance.

Sincerely,

Marty

i think you,ll find hotel,s change hands and are refurbished , rather than new one,s being built. regarding line,s i alway,s start at the opposite end of the park and work my way back, as people tend to go on the first one at hand.

In the first half of May, the crowds are not too bad at the Orlando parks. The one exception is the parks having grad nights. WDW is stopping them after this year, but grad nights will be at the Magic Kingdom on May 6th and 7th, and the park closes early for non-grads. Universal is having something too, but I don't know the details.

Beginning of May is usually a nice time for weather and crowds. Some of the newest include Hilton Orlando by the Convention Center, Hilton Bonnet Creek and Waldorf Astoria inside Disney property (all in Oct '09), Hilton Parc Soleil, and Rosen Shingle Creek. These were all built as new not refurbished. Disney is in the process of building a new resort but not ready until late 2012 I think

Events in the park (MK, I think) where only high school seniors (soon to graduate) can attend. Special tickets, park closed to all others. Universal has something similar, but not sure of dates.

Universals were on last week whilst I was here,...utter carnage! I felt sorry for the poor families with young kids as the large groups would have been intimidating

We were at Universal last Wednesday and Thursday and the crowd level was very low. I looked at the calandar and made sure that I avoided grad nights at all the parks. The Disney Parks and Busch Gardens were also very quiet. Perhaps the crowds are going to arrive for Memorial Day weekend.

In twenty years I have never known the area so quiet, and I have been several times at this time of year.
