red tide?

I'm trying to decide between Sanibel and Naples for an early December trip with my husband and toddler, and though frankly we're leaning towards the former (more affordable beach-front lodging for families) the one thing that worries me is that Sanibel has been having problems with red tide/algae bloom/whatever it's called that makes beaches unswimmable. Does Naples have similar issues, or is this a Sanibel-only problem?

Hi Amanda,

Yes, Naples does get red tide as does Ft. Myers and areas north. Here are two websites to help you track the red tide.

http://www.redtidealert.com/

http://www.naplesgov.com/

I hope the water's fine when you get to Southwest Florida. Enjoy your trip!
