Late flight after cruise

Hello.

We are cruising from Miami in November this year (all booked with Virgin) and have an 8 hour delay between returning back and our flight from Miami. Is there anywhere to leave our cases at the cruise terminal and can anybody suggest a good way to spend the time. We don't really want to wait at the airport for 8 hours.

There are several options for you to choose from:

Rent a car for the day.

Use Public Transportation.

From there many folks will opt for a day at one of the following places:

South Beach(easy with public transport)

Down Town Miami(easy with public transport)

Everglades(best with a rental car)

As for your bags, some airlines will check your bags from the Cruise Port(for a fee, check with your airline)

If your airline doesnt offer that service you could head to the airport and check your bags in early( may depend on the local ticket counter being open)

you could store your bags at the airport(fee applys)

Depending on your destination some Hotels store bags.

Pick a spot and a mode of transportation and some idea of your dates of travel/budget and then we can offer more suggestions from there...

Since you should get get to the Airport about 2 hours in advance of your International flight, you really only have 6 hours. I was not sure if they offer car rentals at the port and was curious - After some googling it appears they do. Actually in your case a car rental could be good, depending on how much luggage you have. You can store your luggage in the trunk (If that is not possible, make sure to use a Parking Garage or other secure parking to avoid any "issues"). Then you can explore South Beach from there before dropping off your car at the Airport (make sure to check on any alternative location drop-off fees). Good way to pass 6 hours.

From personal experience I would get to Miami airport about three hours before your flight home as it can take a long time to clear security. Sorry but I have no idea what you can do for the rest of the day but you really don't want to be stuck at the airport! When we came off our cruise we didn't fly home until the next day so had a night at an hotel, which worked out very well.

1. You could head to MIA and drop off the bags in left luggage and ride the people mover back to Bayside for a few Hours or grab the bus and head to SOBE for a couple of hours

2. You could head to MIA and get a day room at Hotel MIA - and use the pool / facilities and lounge at the pool

3. You could head direct to Bayside and sit with your luggage for a few hours...

Thanks for the info. With hindsight flying back the next day might have been a better option.

Many thanks for the info. It will be Sat 16th Nov & the budget is likely to be low at the end of the hol. Public transport or taxi to South beach or Lincoln Road looks to be a good option.
