Melbourne Beach new visitor

We are going to be visiting Melbourne Beach for a week in July. We have never been there before and are looking for ANY info that anyone can share with us. What is the area like? The water color, the sand? Are there places to shop, eat, ect. there? We are staying at a home right on the beach and are looking forward to it. How far to theme parks in Orlando?

Thanks so much!

Hi, how are you? You can go to www.32951.com to get some feel for the area. This is a very laidback, beachy small town. We dress casually all the time and the kids rarely wear shoes. Most everyone surfs or fishes, but rarely at the same time! The water color varies depending on how much the sand is stirred up and how much rain we've had. Typically the ocean is a medium green color. It is not typically as clear as it is "down south" because we are just 5 miles from Sebastian Inlet. The sand is light brownish and has a lot of ground up sea shells in it. Mall-type shopping is 15-30 minutes away, either north or south. There are 10 restuarants within 10 miles, mostly to the north. In the summer you will be able to watch turtles lay their eggs, which is very cool. It's about 90 minutes to theme parks. Have fun

You must visit Sebastian Inlet State Park during your stay .. it is beautiful there! .. Have been to Sebastian 3 times so far and actually will miss it this visit .. we are staying on the Gulf side.
