looking for a vacation rental with pools. Do we need a pool that is screened in? Are bugs bad day and night?
What time of year?
We are planning for mid-October
It is our experience that bugs are not bad in the Fall of the year. We have rented homes without enclosures and been just find. However, if you are renting a home with a lot of vegetation and plantings or will be staying close to any mangroves, then you would be wise to find a home with an enclosure. Many to most of the homes have enclosures.
I know one owner who lost their pool cage during WIlma who instead of replacing the cage he installed a bug control system. He tells me that his guests are quite comfortable. If the house doesn't have a cage, ask if they have and use a mosquito control system.
Also our experience is that bugs are not usually a problem in October.
Every Marco visitor has an opinion on Bugs, everyone has their own level of tolerance. From my experience of visiting Marco for many many years in different seasons .. there are no concerns about bugs.
If you were to ask a Marco resident the same question .. he would likely say the same thing. Remember Marco is a residential community, if there is a major issue, it would be dealt with. Marco is not a small backward city in the middle of the Everglades ... bug issues are worked on and solved. Each real estate owner pays for mosquito control in its real estate taxes.
