Red Tide

Check out this website. We just arrived in Marco. There are some toxins in the air that are slightly irritating. There was one day in Sanibel that was really bad. Many people were coughing. It was gone the following day.

It just hit us today, dead fish, sting rays, etc. At least it is windy, we have had beautiful weather and need a storm.

Unfortunately the red tide appears to be more frequent now than in days past. The first time I experienced this some 20 years ago I thought I was coming down with a cold.....itchy red eyes and sore throat. It can be pretty unpleasant for some.

Saw a few fish washed up on the shore but no fishy smell. We counted 5 including an eel with very impressive teeth that was probably 20 inches long.

Sad story - looks like the Red Tide is particularly bad at the moment:

It must be passing through the keys. I noticed Thursday while fishing my throat was getting scratchy. I joked to my friend that it must be red tide! Got diagnosed with strep yesterday morning. Seems my gut was right!

This post is from March. Not Red Tide but strep throat? We don't have RT!

beachbratz- Are you saying that the RT is now out of the area? I REALLY hope so!! We will be in Marco for the month of June, so we are hoping that everything is cleared out by then (figured it was). Thanks!
