Marathon Xmas Day and New Years?

Hello

I am flying to Miami and driving to Marathon the same day( flight should land about 2.30pm in the afternoon on the 25th . We are renting a house for 9 nights at Marathon and then going to Florida City for 4 nights. Will anything be open Xmas Day, places to eat and petrol stations etc? If we wanted to eat out on Xmas Day in the evening is it better to book ahead or just go into the town and try and get in( just 2 adults). Guess I would rather not book anything incase flight is delayed. The house we will be renting will not have any food etc in it so hoping some kind of shop will be open for basic items. Do shops open boxing day?

Also it is best to book something in advance for New Years Eve( like now) or just wait until we are in Marathon to book something up? What sort of events would be going on New Years Eve in Marathon?

Thanks in advance for all your replies

Cheers

Christmas to New Years is the busiest week of the year for South FL. Pack your patience and understand you will prob have to wait for tables at most restaurants unless they take reservations. There are two major grocery stores - both are usually closed Christmas Day - for essential essentials - there is a Walgreens that is usually open (bread, milk, eggs and such - no really fresh foods - but they do have liquor :) There will be restaurants open - many doing traditional Christmas dinners throughout the day. Not sure who is doing what yet - we still have to get through Thursday.

New Years - I would wait until you get here, find out whos doing what, find a place you like and if they take reservations, do so, if not - go and enjoy. There isn't one big event on NYE, but every place does their own little thing.
