Does anyone know how Blackfin Resort is? We have 3 boys that are 6 years. Thanks!

The Blackfin is one of the older one-story concrete hotels in Marathon. I'm not sure about the rooms, but the location is great. Right on the Gulf Of Mexico.

It is located right behind The Hurricane Restaurant. They have a great Thursday night "Wing Night" - a locals favorite.

You've probably already made your trip, but don't personallly think you would feel safe at their beach area with 3 and 6 year old children. This is not a 'walk-out' beach, but a sandy peninsula with rock reef around it (on the gulf of mex side). They do have a ladder leading down to the water but since there is an open canal leading back to their marina, the water is fairly deep.

They do have a fenced freshwater pool, but don't know the depths.

The rooms are very old fashioned motel type (harvest gold bathroom fixtures & wood panelled walls), no view, asphalt parking lot with plastic chairs on a sidewalk out front of your room. Parking is at the door (all one level). The regular double room and king room are not impressive at all. The 2-bedroom suites were much nicer with a kitchen, dining and living room area. These are closer to the pool than the regular motel rooms.

Marathon's Sombrero Beach on the Atlantic Ocean side is a really nice white sand beach (though really windy when we were there) but it is a fairly good distance from this motel. It's a very large public beach (free) with a few picnic benches on covered pads and a playground (with showers and restrooms). Don't believe there are any hotels near there though, mostly rental houses/condos, etc.
