Just back from the Keys!

We have just returned from our first trip to the Keys! Stayed in Grassy Key for a week and had wonderfully hot weather! After spending an incredible amount of time researching online for the trip, I feel we made some good choices re accommodations, restaurants and activities. Any questions, just ask!

Yes...try new things. For example, ceviche or masitos. Just ask Papa

"We have an ice-box that runs across the stern of the boat [the Anita,

"Sloppy" Joe Russel's boat, not Hemingway's Pilar] with bait iced down

on one side and beer and fruits on the other. The best bait for big

marlin is fresh cero mackerel or kingfish of a pound to three pounds

weight. The best beer is Hatuey, the best fruits, in season, are

Filipino mangoes, iced pineaple, and alligator pears. Ordinarily we

eat alligator pears for lunch with a sandwich, fixing them with pepper

and salt and a freshly squeezed lime. When we run into the beach to

anchor, swim, and cook a hot lunch on hot days when fish are not

running, you can make a French dressing for the pears, adding a little

mustard. You can get enough fine, big avacados to feed five people for

fifteen cents."

Sadly, Hatuey is getting harder and harder to find in Key West. The

local places don't put in on tap anymore because they say it has

become too expensive.

Yes, we would go back. Stay at the same resort in Grassy Key? Probably not. A little more north or south. Didn't enjoy the smell of the rotting seagrass!
