Where to say: child, swimming beach?, inexpensive, close....

I'm helping a friend who isn't so internet-savvy, and I don't have a whole lot of time to research, so I'm turning to the good folks at tripadvisor for some quick help!!

Looking for a place to stay, late March/early April, not for a full week (so are most condos out of the question?). A couple with one child, age 5, could do a basic hotel room or a suite. Under $200, or under $150/night ideal. Want to go to Pennekamp, maybe take snorkeling tour, visit other area attractions, but don't want to spend all their time in the car. Accommodations near at least a few restaurants/shops would be ideal. Will be staying probably 4 nights before heading to Hollywood FL for a few nights. Thanks for your help!!

Check the Islander in Islamorada. It is around that price range and is in walking distance to some shops & restaurants.

Try Harry Harris Park in Islamorada. It is very child freindly. It has parking swings and slides, bathrooms and an inclosed swimming area. Very uncrowded during the week.

Try www.VRBO.com It is "Vacation Rentals by owner". You may find nightly condo rentals in that area at a reasonable price, especially if it hasn't been booked already.

Just got back from Key Largo yesterday. A friend and I stayed at the Bay Harbor Lodge; had a cottage with one bedroom and a pullout couch in the living room... full kitchen... for about $175 / night. The full kitchen was great because it meant we only ate out two of the five nights we were there, so saved a lot of money that way.

Was very impressed with Bay Harbor accommodations - very clean, nice, comfortable... and kid friendly!
