Jacksonville to Daytona beaches, best 1 day stay

Soon, we'll be driving to Longwood, FL from WIS and want to make a sidetrip to the east coast beach area between Jacksonville to Daytona (so we can continue the short drive to Longwood, FL) and spending 1 Friday night. We would appreciate recommendations on that side trip. 2 Adults, 1 small dog.

We like QUIET, safe options with our dog. I am looking at a map and have NO IDEA where and probably MORE important where NOT to stop/stay.

Would like a CLEAN motel. We want to sightsee, visit the beach or intracoastal waterway. LOW CRIME areas, pet friendly options. Dine outside restaurants fast food is fine.

Yes we know many beaches in FL are not pet friendly. We can walk the sidewalk along a beach.

Thank you.

Hello Enjoy Life!

St. Augustine would be a nice place to stop. Have you been to St Augustine? There's lots of sightseeing, plenty of all kinds of restaurants, beach and intracoastal waterway are right there, and there is a nice little privately owned inn that allows small dogs in some of its rooms and gets good reviews.

If you really want to enjoy life, stay an extra day or two in St. Augustine! This historic little city warrants it.

Enjoy your trip!

P.S. I love Milwaukee!
