Holmes Beach for a week with 2 little kids -suggestions???

Hi Everyone- We will be renting a house for a week in March in Holmes Beach with our 4 year old and our 2 year old. We're looking forward to chilling out on the beach or by the pool (especially after being buried by snow up here in the north). Any suggestions for fun day activities on AMI or in Sarasota/Bradenton? Any family friendly restaurants you could recommend? We're first time visitors so we're open to all ideas and any advice. Also, we'll need to rent some kid gear (i.e. a pack and play, stroller, etc.) - any one place over another you'd suggest renting from. Thanks in advance!

For rentals either Fun and More or Beachbums will have what you need.

All restaurants on the island are kid friendly, but do make sure you go to the Beach House and the Sandbar--the kids can play in the sand while waiting for your order, and they have great kid meals.

Do take a day and go to Mote Aquarium. There is the aquarium itself, and the Mote boat that goes out into Sarasota Bay. There is mini golf on Bridge Street. Do buy some sand toys. The sand is soft, cool, and lots of fun for that age.

We always rent our baby/kid gear from ABC rentals...they are right in Holmes Beach. http://www.abcbabyrental.com/index.cfm . We've always had great service from them and highly recommend.

We LOVE taking "nature" walks with our daughter (now 4). Joan Durante Park on Long Boat Key and Coquina Baywalk/Leffis Key at the very south end of the island in Bradenton Beach are our favorites. Joan Durante has a playground as well. Also Desoto National Historic Park in Bradenton is also a fun place to visit with nice trails. http://www.nps.gov/deso/index.htm

If you are there for St. Patrick's Day be sure to check out the parade in Holmes Beach.

Off island we like Mote Aquarium and also Sarasota Jungle Gardens.

Tons of great family restaurants. There are really too many to mention. We like Star Fish in Cortez, Rotten Ralphs, Beachhouse.

Have fun...totally jealous. We go every March but can't this year. Looking forward to 2014!

Thank you both! Sounds like Mote Aquarium is a must. Thanks for the other advice and recommendation as well. Everything we have seen online looks beautiful so we can't wait.

I just wanted to add that our daughter (she was 3 when we went last year) had a wonderful time on the island and people were so kind to her (and to us). It was refreshing. You will have a great vacation!
