It's just a short drive over the bridge and you be be at FM beach, you can also drive over another bridge to Sanibel. You'll have a great time. If you know how to use google earth you can see how close you are to everything.

Hi

We travel to FMB from the UK a couple of times a year sometimes for 2 weeks on the beach or as you guys are doing a week in orlando and a week on the beach, you will be ready for some time out at the beach after doing the parks with the kids, enjoyable but exhausting especially as us brits are not accustomed to the heat. The FMB beaches are brill and at that time of year prob quiet not like Brighton or Blackpool lol. For good food head to Nervous Nellies just over the bridge the biggest menu we have ever seen, good shoping at Miromar outlets about a 45 min drive, as for the nightlife, we love it. Hope you have a brill time as we do, if you want anymore info, let me know, we are over again in May and Sept.

If you in the mood, take a ride to The Naples Zoo, your children will enjoy it. It's a lovely zoo. You might like to eat at Mel's dinner which is not far from the zoo. Your wife might like window shopping on 5th Ave, in Naples. The zoo is not far from FMB.

Snug Harbour is on the island, no bridge crossing required. Nervous Nellies is actually right next door on the bayfront and used to be Snug Harbour restaurant. In August it will be hot and uncrowded.

From Snug Harbour you can walk anywhere in the Times Square business district, or catch a trolley down to the south end and enjoy the shops and restaurants at Santini Plaza. You can also have a quick walk or bike over the bridge and enjoy the restaurants across the bay, like Bonita Bill's, Doc Fords, and Parrot Key. The family may enjoy the Ostego Bay Marine Science Center (www.ostegobay.org). If they are doing waterfront tours in August that is also quite interesting, seeing the shrimp fleet and workings. Your group can also charter a boat outing - the captains will be grateful for the business in August!

Zoomers may be open by then - a new arcade/amusement/rides place similar to King Richard's in April. They are working away at it and I can't imagine it won't be open by then. You could take the trolley to Summerlin Square and walk to Zoomers, or it's an easy drive to the Summerlin Road location if you have a car. The latest reports are that it will open early June.

Yes, there is a boatyard next door, but it shouldn't be disturbing. That is where the Big M Casino boat goes out if you want to do that. FMB Princess also sails from the dock in front of Snug Harbor.

many thanks for your report, I am wondering though why you say it wont be crowded in August. In England and Europe the beaches are heaving and the resorts are busy ? is there any reason ? thanks

Our high season here is January through Easter. After that we have visitors, but mostly Floridians and Europeans :-) It is quite hot and muggy, and it's hurricane season. August and September are probably our slowest months, plus our kids go back to school August 8. You're coming at a great time to enjoy the beach and attractions and miss the crowds and traffic.
