Where to stay between Fort Myers Beach/Sanibel and Airport

We are driving from Tampa to Ft Myers early Sunday and want to spend day on the beach but have a very early flight out of RSW at 6AM (probably need to be there by 4:30am and return rental car)... Should we enjoy day at the beach and then find a hotel near airport? or would we be safe in staying near the beach and getting up very early to get to the airport between 4 and 4:30am?

You won't run into any traffic, that's for sure! Safe to stay on the Beach.

If you choose to stay near the airport, I can recommend Homewood Suites. If we have an early flight, we return our rental car the evening before and have the hotel shuttle pick us up then take the shuttle back to the airport in the morning. Saves the headache of returning the rental car at 4:30AM.
