One day cruise to Bahamas

We will be in Lauderdale By The Sea the week between Christmas & New Years. Has anyone taken the 1 day trip to the Bahamas? When you get over there is there really time to do anything? Thanks!!

The horrible ship ( Discovery) that has been doing that cruise is ceasing operation in September- allegedly was going into dry dock for updating ( which it needs desperately) but it appears that was a bit of a lie (so typical of their management) as it was simltaneously put up for sale. We have not heard if it has been bought or by whom , and don't at this point know if it will ever resume operations- so at the moment at least, there is no one day boat trip for December and had it still be running , we locals who know what a rust bucket it has been would have begged you not to go anyway.

If you want to go the Bahamas , you'd need to fly - I have to say I am not a big fan of the Bahamas- stayed on my cruise ship last time it docked in Nassau- too many aggressive vendors like hair braiders and folks with cheap souvenirs and various scam artists pestering you - our tablemates last time told us that night they were sorry they had gotten off ship.

Thanks for the responses! Sounds

bad. We normally go to Vegas and wanted to do some gambling. We'll go to the Hard Rock, & the dog track.

You could also check out the Isle Casino which is at Pompano Harness Track ( at Atlantic and Powerline) and would be closer for you- it has slots and poker but no blackjack- only the Indian casinos are allowed blackjack currently - so you will find that at Hard Rock which is Seminole owned.

It has a decent buffet and a nice steakhouse as well.

I've not been to the dog track casino - Mardi Gras is the only one that comes to mind, but that is way down in Hallandale , not far from Gulfstream .

Absolutely terrible. We left an hour after the scheduled departure time and the two and half hour boat ride was four hours long on the way there. We literally had 2 hours in the bahamas before it was time to head back. What a rip off.

Are you speaking of the Celebration( really misnamed I'd say ) Cruise or the Bahamas Express ferry? Not heard much good about either and as far as I know those are now the only two options from this general area- Celebration leaves from Port Of Palm Beaqch but I think in further consideration is an overnight ordeal while the Express ( sounds like a misnamed experience too based on your trip) is the only day trip. So Sorry! Wish you had asked here before booking!

I have been told that the sea conditions can make major difference in how long it can take a catamaran style vessel like Bahamas Ferry to cross over - and seas have been high and rough these last several days. That is not to excuse what happened , but perhaps a caution to wait till you wish to go and check the weather reports for Ocean conditions before you decide to buy a ticket.

There is a somewhat similar ferry in the Keys that goes to Ft.Myers and there have been times it has left passengers stranded with no trip back because the seas are too rough to even attempt the voyage.
