I75 will take cash for the tolls.
but it will depend on which way you go from I75 to I95. some ways are cash tolls (or even no tolls) and some ways are cashless. this was covered yesterday or the day before on the Miami forum I think?
And I would take the toll turnpike NOT i95 to orlando from FtL, the turnpike is not cashless north of Dade county.
Know what you are saying about it being on the Miami forum, but somebody must be able to tell us tourists where the cashless tolls are and the best way of dealing with it. All i want to know is :- we are driving from Sanford to Sarasota down the i4 and i75. Sarasota to Fort Lauderdale on i75, and then Fort Lauderdale to Orlando on i95 or the 91. Can we pay cash at any tolls we come across on any of these roads ???
We went from Fort Lauderdale to Sanford in March to catch the Auto Train. 1-95 had no tolls all the way.
Ther are no tolls on I-95 , it is afree roadway, but as AMAX said not the best choice from the Orlando area because of traffic from the Palm Beach area dn southward. cash is accepted on all the toll booths north of Miami on the Florida Turnpike( the better way to get to South Florida in my opinion- teh only cashless portion at the moment is south of Miami as far as the end T Florida Cityu- where you won't be going.
I don't recall the toll situation on I-75 ( maybe one if any at all) as I haven't been theer recently.
You could take I-95 south from Sanford as far as Ft. Pierce and then transfer over to the Turnpike south there- the two roads are within blocks of each other there so it's an easy switch and you really will make better time on the Turnpike at that point. There will be no cashless tolls on that stretch of it.
I'll see if I can find out about I-75 west- I just don't recall.
The most recent info I can find is that the Miami- Naples stretch of I-75 will someday be cashless , but not yet , no date announced. the Naplesto Ft. Myers Forum posters may have used that stretch more recently and might be able to be specific about what tehthe tolls are in cost- it is not somehing that made a major impression on me on my last trip- so likely minimal ( I want to say one or two toll collections of a small amount but I just don't remember.)
Latest info I can find is $2.50 toll in each direction ( one collection spot) or $2.00 if you( voluntarily) use Sunpass instead- i think that is still accurate . The state tried to get bids from a private firm to maintain the road and collect tolls and no one bid at all , so it is still maintained by the Turnpike Authority.
I think the toll booths are right as you enter in whichever direction and nothing after that.
Like I said, I dont' know all the road names to get you there w/o cashless tolls. Last time I did that route there were cash booths.
If you want I75 to I95 you need to ask on the Miami forum as this is in DADE county where the cashless thing is going on. Not in Broward where Ft L is.
I am not fobbing you off but telling you where the info is if you want ti. It would be nice if it were here, but as volunteers if we don't live there (in Dade county) we can't tell you.
Thanks to all for the info., and hope they still take cash in July :)
I know of no plan to change things anytime soon so July sounds safe to me- and if we hear to the contrary, we'll post !
I'd check with your car rental company when you arrive. It is my understanding but I could be wrong that rental cars are fitted with a transponder and you just drive though the Sunpass lane and pay the tolls to the car rental company on return of the car.
