Proper dinner clothing

I am getting my family ready for Fort Lauderdale and Fort Walton. I have a question about clothing. We will be there in April. Should I help my dad pick out some resort wear (linen pants and Tommy Bahama Shirts)? Are there many places where shorts are inappropriate? Also in this places do men wear sandals or closed toe shoes?

In Florida...anything goes! There are a few "high end" restaurants that require a jacket, but these are getting more and more outdated.

The Bahama shirts and shorts are very popular (if you're limited in Kentucky, just wait till you come down, you'll have lots of choices!). Men tend to wear either Docksiders or sandals. Sneakers are fine too, whatever he's most comfortable in!

It's a very relaxed atmosphere down here...Enjoy your trip!

It really depends on where you're dining at -- there are plenty of casual restaurants where people will have shorts and sandals on at dinner... and there are plenty of higher end places where they are discouraged or not allowed. Even the fanciest places around don't require a jacket though so nothing is too formal.

I think your dad will be fine with some golf shirts or any collared shirt at dinner. Fort Lauderdale is casual but in some places he might feel uncomfortable in just a tee shirt. I would avoid linen pants, it wrinkles too easily, unless he likes to iron.

Sandals are fine, as long as he doesn't wear socks with them. Many go sockless with closed toes shoes too.

I hope he enjoys his trip!
