Crowds for Gator Bowl?

We are considering vacationing in the Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach area over New Year's holiday. Does the area get really crowded because of the Gator Bowl? Would it be hard to find lodging and are restaurants crowded?

Thanks in advance.

While certainly there is some additional visitation due to the Gator Bowl, the level depends so much on the teams that will be playing. Regardless, it isn't jam packed, wall to wall. The Amelia Island Tourist Development Council certainly tries to get visitors to stay on the Island rather than in Jacksonville, but most of the team fans stay downtown Jax since that is where all the team and bowl activities are held. I don't think you would encounter the difficulties you might have like some other holiday like 4th of July. Perhaps the other AI destination expert, AInnKeeper can weigh in being closer to the lodging business.
