Destin in October

Destin in October

We have been to Destin twice. The first year we stayed at the Destin Gulfgate (it was great!). This spring we stayed at the Edgewater Resort (We loved it!). We are wanting to come down again this october. Can anyone tell us how the weather is during October. How is Destin in October? Are the beaches crowded?

Both our trips were in May and June.

Thanks in advance for the input.

For average temps and rainfall go here:

Average temp is 70 in Oct. with average high of 80. Of course the earlier in the month you go the warmer it will be. The water is still warm enough for swimming and there are no crowds.

Personally, October is my favorite time at the beach.

Suma, Thanks for your response.

We plan to arrive on Oct 7th, so hopefully it would still be warm at that point. We were hoping for less crowded and more relaxation.

Thanks again.

October is the best time of year to go - our family goes every year the 1st week in october. Rates drop, no waiting when you go out to eat, weather is still warm but not too warm - and the best part about October is the Seafood Festival - starts 6-8.

have fun!

During the month of October, you should also go down to the docks. During October, we celebrate out annual Fishing Rodeo. I believe this year is the 56th year.

We have gone to Destin the last two years in October. We stayed at Sundestin (not Sandestin) last year. Will probably try Sterling Sands this year. We have found beach weather to be great and the water nice. However, unheated pools are too cool for us and we look for heated or indoor (thus the Sundestin). The kids can swim though undeterred. We also need wireless hifi which is harder to find and that is why we now stay in Destin instead of FT Walton. We really like Nautilus and Island Princess there but alot of driving back to Destin for restaraunts, etc. For the most part the beaches and restaraunts are uncrowded. One year we stayed in PCB because of post-hurricane damage (hated it!)

We are heading down the first week in October with a 1 year old and a 4 year old.

Are most places still open that cater to this age group in October?

Can anyone recommend a condo that is waterfront with a heated pool that is close to restaurants and kid friendly activities?

Try Sterling Sands. We stayed there this year and loved it. Beach front with a great pool and hot tub, a little Grill that has ice cream and food and beer. It's right across the street from The Track that has little kids rides and go carts.

I would also look into Sandestin.

After season, some of the structured children's activies are hard to locate. So if you are wanting something like that, Sandestin is apt to have it.

They have several Gulf Front Properties, but I would check out the reviews on the Hilton before I would stay there.
