Finding dolphins from pontoon

Hello everyone!

My family and I will be in Destin in October for fall break. We love to rent a pontoon while on vacation and cruise the bay. In 2010 we were lucky to find some dolphins. I would love for this experience to happen again for my family. Does anyone have pointers on how to find dolphins? Is later in the day better than in the morning to see them? Any particular spots to always find them?

Thanks in advance and come on October.

We've seen them in the bay each of the last 3 seasons we were there; however, this was during June and July, have never been there in October. We've had the best luck spotting them about a mile west of the mid-bay bridge, usually between 2-4 pm. Again, this is during peak summer, don't know how you would fare in autumn.

They are everywhere - one good way is to find a dolphin boat in the harbor that is stopped. They keep each other informed as to where the dolphins are hanging. Usually see some by the east pass - from the bridge to the Dewey Destin on the bay.
