trip to Florida

We are planning a trip to Florida in May of 2007. We would like to stay right on the beach and relax. We are planning to drive over to Orlando for a few days but most of the time we want to be on the beach. We have never been to this area so I need help in finding a place to stay. We will be traveling with a group of 7 and a condo would probably be our best bet. Would the Cocoa Beach area be our best bet or is there somewhere else on the beach that we should try? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Cocoa Beach would probably be very nice for you. It is the closest beach to Oralando. And, you said you want to relax, it is perfect for that! There is enough to see and do, places to eat & drink, but is not as crowded and busy as say, Daytona. There is the 'Cocoa Beach Pier' with shops, restaurants and bars. I can recomend the Sterling Casino Cruise if that is something that would interest you.

I last stayed at the Best Western there and it is right on the beach near the pier. Nice rooms, balconies available overlooking the ocean, very clean etc, but sorry, I don't have any info about condos.

Mark...I saw that you live in Clearwater Florida...That is the other place that we were looking to stay...Which would be better for teenagers? Cocoa Beach or Clearwater Florida?

Better for teens? I would have to say Clearwater Beach. Clearwater Beach is a smaller, more compact area of beach, so the crowd is more dense than Cocoa. So, they would be more apt to run into teens their age to hang out with, frisbee, volleyball, (eyeball the other guys/gals). More active pool scenes, etc. The beaches at Cocoa are the whole length of the city so the crowd is more spread out, thinner.

Clearwater also has plenty of restaurants and fun things for the teens, and mom and dad to enjoy. However the drive to Clw will be almost twice as long as to Cocoa. (try to avoid rush hour thru Tampa).

Alot of the hotels on Clearwater Beach have changed names, some have been knocked down and are being replaced by newer and bigger ones. Due to that and the fact that I so rarely go to the beach area, I won't be too much help in hotel ideas. Try posting in the Clearwater forum for hotel or condo info. Either place you decide I hope you enjoy it!

If you are planning trips to Orlando, Cocoa Beach is the only way to go. The drive from the west coast is twice as long. If you are looking for a condo try www.vrbo.com, its a great service. Look for Cocoa Beach or Cape Canaveral. They are right next to each other.

We are owners at the Ron Jon Resort in Cape Canaveral and they have plenty for teens to do right on their property: water park, mini golf, basketball, tennis, and much more. Check out their website www.ronjonresort.com. They have studios and 2 bedroom units. We had 6 in our 2 bedroom and it was great! It is a new resort and everything is very nice and well maintained. We took our teens (our 2 daughters and their boyfriends) over to Universal for the day and dropped them off while my husband and I went on Sterling Cruise line. (The kids were 17 & 18 and had their boyfriends with them and cell phones so I knew they would be safe).

I highly recommend Ron Jon Resort!
