Indoor Activities

Arriving in Clearwater tomorrow evening and it looks like the weather may be taking a turn for the worse soon. Any ideas on things to do with two teen boys if TS Isaac continues on it's projected path and our beach vacation gets rained out (hopefully no evacuations required!)? I know we can go to the mall/movies, already have Devil Rays tickets, have been to MOSI in Tampa many times, and they're not into indoor gaming type places anymore. I suppose we could try bowling....

Any ideas would be appreciated!

There's the new building that the Dali Museum now occupies and the Florida Aquarium just over the bay in Tampa. If you do go to the Aquarium, right nearby is a shopping area called Channelside and in it is a combination bowling alley/restaurant/nightclub called Splitsville.

Hopefully you won't be required to evac.

St. Pete Pier is another option. Though, who knows what will be opened, and how easy it will be for you to get around if it does come close. If it comes close enough, travel will be very limited, closed bridges etc. Pack something that may keep their interest, board games, cards, video games, books etc. The good thing is, usually after a tropical storm passes, the weather will be great for several days with no more rain.

Just saw that the Florida Aquarium is closed Mon thru Aug 30 due to the RNC, and anywhere near downtown Tampa will be packedand there are some street closures, streets restricted to pedestrians, etc due to the RNC. Good time to stay away from downtown Tampa, if you are able to drive around.

Best bet though will be to bring a few more things than you normally would to keep them occupied. May want to thow in a flashlight with new batteries too.

We were in Clearwater when Debby hit-my kids which included 2 teen girls, a 12 year old boy and 11 year old girl really enjoyed being on the beach during the storm (not in the water) but just seeing & feeling the huge waves crashing and the unfortunate flooding that came along with Debby. Although I was a bit apprehensive at first about going out into the storm-it was an adventure they will never forget.

Not sure of where you are staying, but the new Surf Style beach store on the beachwalk has a wave runner inside-look into that.

The good thing is that as soon as the storm passes-things will be back to "normal" pretty quickly. Have fun!
