st. pete's beach

Husband and I going to Florida in spring 2012. Flying into Tampa for a week and then going to Orlando for a week. Looking for advise/feedback on the following questions.

1. is there a shuttle from the airport to hotels in St. Pete's? If so, what's the name of the shuttle service?

2. is there a bus service from St. Pete's Beach to Orlando Downtown Disney marketplace area or nearby?

3. what hotel do you recommend for on or walking distance to St. Pete's Beach - not too pricey, but clean.

Much appreciated!

1. www.supershuttle.com for transportation from TPA to St. Pete Beach.

2. Renting a car will be the most convenient way to Orlando. It's only a 1.45 to 2 hour drive. May want to look into http://tampametrotransport.com/index.html

3. Many hotels on St. Pete Beach. If you haven't already, post this in the St. Pete Beach forum. Lots of nice folks there a lot more familiar with hotels on the beach there. Some of the most mentioned hotels are Tradewinds, Sirata, and the Bilmar. These are all directly on St. Pete Beach.

4. It's St. Pete Beach, no 's.

Hi Sandra,

MarkBee already covered 1), 2)....and 4) perfectly ;-)

Depends on exactly when you are coming, but Spring is, in general, High Season, so accommodations are at their most expensive. For some less pricy options, take a look at the Beachcomber, the Bon Aire, Plaza Beach Resort, and Dolphin Beach Resort. These are all directly beachfront.

To save even more, check out these places that are all just a couple minutes walk from the beach - Gulf Tides Inn, Bay Palms Resort, and Bayview Plaza. (The last two are sister properties to the Plaza Beach Resort, and are right across the street.)

Good luck :-)

Just a little Info in case you did not know, since you posted on the Clearwater forum and asked about St. Pete Beach.

An overview of Pinellas County Beach Communities

Pinellas County has many wonderful beach towns; some are well known and others less well known, but the beaches are essentially the same because each community runs into the next, so for people who are traveling to the area here is an overview of the beaches.

There are four major barrier islands where the beaches are located: Clearwater Beach Island, Sand Key, Treasure Island and Long Key.

Beginning at the north end is Clearwater Beach on the aptly named Clearwater Beach Island. Clearwater Beach is a part of the City of Clearwater.

Crossing the Clearwater Pass Bridge southward is Sand Key. Sand Key is about 14 miles long with the Clearwater Pass at the north end of the island and John's Pass at the south end. Sand Key includes several communities: Sand Key, Belleair Beach, Belleair Shores, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Redington Shores, North Redington Beach, Redington Beach, and Madeira Beach.

Treasure Island is separated on the north by John's Pass and Blind Pass on the south. The southern end of the island is known as Sunset Beach.

South of Treasure Island is Long Key which includes St. Pete Beach and the southern tip of the island is Pass-a-Grille Beach.

So you might want to use Google Maps and type in one of these locations. For example, do a search on google maps for "accommodations near Indian Rocks Beach" and see what is displayed.

4. Re: st. pete's beach

Hello,

we're thinking of visiting St Pete Beach end of August - first 2 weeks of September, for a 3 weeks up to a month stay.

So, here are my questions:

- we'd be arriving from Europe. The best airport to arrive to would be Tampa International Airport - is that correct?

- which would be the most convenient airlines to look into (flying from Italy)?

- we'd be renting a car - which would be the most convenient rental car company to look into? Either on the airport, or in St Pete Beach?

- what is the weather like at that time of the year?

We were thinking of visiting Walt Disney World, sleep over, visit Universal parks the next day and drive back that evening to St Pete - is this doable?

Which would be the most convenient option for that night's stay?

Many thanks for your replies!

St. Pete Beach is about 35 -40 minute drive from Tampa airport TPA, and about a 2 hour drive from Orlando MCO airport.

MCO has many more international flights, so you may want to check both for pricing.

All major car rental companies are at both airports. Alamo, Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, and National are some of the larger companies.

Weather is usually hot, with a chance of rain in the afternoon. Usually the rain will just last an hour or two, then it will be sunny again. It is during hurricane season. While the odds are great there will not be one while you are here, just may want to look into trip insurance since it sounds like a pretty expensive trip.

The Disney/Universal area is about a 1.45 to 2 hour drive from St. Pete Beach. May want to look for hotels along the "International Drive" area of Orlando. Many hotels and restaurants there, and it is very close to Universal and Disney. Very popular place for tourists to stay for their Disney area trips.

Great you are coming down I would avoid Enterprise in the Tampa Bay area. Called my wife and I liars. If you are in the South Beaches of Pinellas County we have a thing called Free-Beach Ride http://freebeachride.com/ cost nothing us and will take you about anywhere from Johns Pass South for free. Basically a free taxi service
